Elfyn Evans (6th) said:
"We could set these sorts of times yesterday morning as well – we only seem to be struggling when the temperatures increase. There's some work to do to understand why that is happening.
"Of course it's great to see that we're capable of setting times like this, but we need to ensure that we're able to do it over the course of a full rally.
"It was important to give ourselves a comfortable gap over Mads [Østberg] for the afternoon, and we've managed to do that, but we'll still need to be on top of our game and pushing hard to keep him behind us on these last two stages."

Ott Tänak (8th) said:
"It was a smooth morning for us, but we are being very safe at the moment. There are big gaps ahead and behind so we're just trying a few different things with the set-up to see how it affects the handling of the car. We'll try something else in service to see how that feels this afternoon."

Team Principal, Malcolm Wilson OBE, said:

"At the start of the year, our strategy was to start targeting podiums in the second half of the season and Rallye Deutschland is certainly an event we have set our sights on. As the first asphalt event with the new car, there is an element of the unknown but our Tarmac test programme has been extremely encouraging.

"Both drivers have historically performed well in Germany. Elfyn [Evans] proved just how competitive he could be last year and, although he has not competitively driven a world rally car on pure asphalt since 2012, Ott [Tänak] also has the potential to perform strongly.

"The entire team is highly motivated ahead of this event and we're looking forward to seeing what rewards the pace of Elfyn, Ott and the new car can produce on Tarmac."

Loen ja mõtlen siin, lugedes eespool olevat niiöelda kriitikat, et Ott ei saanud enda asjadega hakkama. Talt ei oodatud kulgemist ja kogemuste/seadistuse otsimist ja mida iganes veel, vaid kiiret sõitu. Tahes-tahtmata toob selline asi kaasa ka eksimusi.
