Urmo driving a 2003-specification Ignis put in a remarkable attack over the opening stages to finish leg one in second place overall. He was determined to challenge for the lead today and had a strong day. But the Estonian felt stressed with all the traffic on the road section and had a frightening moment on the cancelled SS10, when he encountered some members of the public who were angry that the stage was cancelled. The angry fans broke his car's windscreen.
He said: "It's been a good day today but not at all easy for various reasons. The car has been absolutely perfect which is the main thing but I'm not making any predictions about what might happen tomorrow. You can never tell what will happen here, and for now we are focussed on coming away with the best result possible."
Monster Sport Europe team manager Risto Laine commented: "Our colleague Urmo Aava is doing a fantastic job in second place, but it's been a disappointing day for Kosti. He went off on a very slippery place: one touch of the throttle was all it took. Looking on the positive side, Mirco had his first clean stage of the rally and immediately set fastest time, which is very encouraging. Per-Gunnar is doing well, but we've told him just to take it easy and get to the finish. It's all about surviving now!"

Keegi siin küsis Solbu põntsu kohta. Ta ise ütles et ühes paremkurvis oli auto vähe alajuhitav ja kurvi keskel pani käsipidurit. Selle tulemusena sõitis ta tagumise vasaku osaga väikse kivi või astangu vms. vastu.
Sainzi paugust võis öelda et selle võisid põhjustada valed rehvid või siis tõesti pealtvaatajate poolt rajale loobitud lumi
Hirvonen üritas oma auto veel kuidagi sõitma saada aga vasak esimene ratas ei keerlenud ja ka vasak tagumine oli viltu.
Kõige imelikum oli see et tänasest on vist kõigil tiimidel akna peal vaid sõitja nimi. Nii Märtini, Solbergi kui oli vist ka Hirvoneni.
